2022 Flooring Trends

As we walk into the New Year, we find out what the discerning homeowner should be feeling under their feet.

What is the most popular floor covering for 2022 and why?

Luxury vinyl tiles (referred to as LVT) are set to be hugely popular again this year. They are available in a variety of different colours, styles and finishes – from wood to stone – making them hugely versatile. There is also the ability to achieve a number of different laying patterns, including strip wood, parquet and French weave to name just a few; there’s a style to suit everyone. It’s a very hard wearing choice of flooring and most brands come with a lifetime guarantee.

When it comes to material, pattern and colour what should we be looking out for this year and why?

Material wise, again LVT will feature highly as well as loop pile carpets both in a polypropylene mix as well as pure wool. 2021 saw a lean to grey tones, while the prediction for 2022 is that a warmer beige will make a come back, alongside a traditional oak flooring look. Patterns trends will take the form of parquet or straight lay.

How can a modern or traditional effect be achieved with flooring?

For a modern look, Karndean or Amtico are the brands to choose. Their grey wood effects, straight laid or 90 degree, create a contemporary feel in any room. Deep pile carpets are seeing a resurgence and the Cormar Gemini range in grey is very on-trend. For a more traditional approach, Woodpecker flooring, in an oak colour and straight laid looks timeless. For luxury underfoot, a wool carpet with a mix, twist pile or loop pile creates a classic feel.

What products are set to be the ones to watch for 2022?

For kitchens, cushioned/vinyl or laminate flooring tick all the boxes when it comes to a combination of style and durability. For living areas, Karndean’s Van Gogh wood effect or a thick pile carpet from either Cormar’s Gemini range or Abingdon’s Lasting Romance will be the discerning choice.

Bathrooms are seeing a upward trend in patterns and colours which can be achieved with Karndean, Amtico or LG Hausys’ (LVT). For the bedroom, there is a lean towards sumptuous, soft deep pile carpets from Associated Weavers and Abingdon. Karndean’s Heritage or Amtico’s Decor collections will be working hard in hallways, completely transform the entrance to homes with bold statements.

What brands will lead the way in 2022 and why?

Karndean and Cormar are ahead of the game, due to their wide colour choice, broad ranges, quality and price. As well as being trusted brands, there are styles to suit a variety of different rooms and properties, with the added bonus that free samples can be posted direct to your home from Karndean.

What is the top tip for flooring trends next year?

Give yourself enough time to find the right colour and style that suits you. Borrow samples and look at different laying pattern that will suit the area being fitted.
